She's Free!

There have been several instances over the last three years where I didn't think we'd see today. But it's here. Teagan's 3rd birthday. I can't believe she's three! Or if you ask her, she's "free". No, she hasn't sought emancipation quite yet, but it wouldn't shock me.
As my previous entry states, she was less than enthusiastic when it came to waking up on her birthday. But when she finally stumbled down the stairs at 8:07 AM and saw the decorations and presents, she declared "It's my bird day! I'm free!"
She put on the birthday crown I invested $1 in and made it official. I made a mental note that 4T pajamas still aren't big enough for my 3 year old.

We opened the present her Dad had been looking forward to seeing her open - a dollhouse with a squillion accessories I found for a great price secondhand. She was excited about it and played with it for a while - hallelujah.
Then decided to play a round of hide and seek in the suitcase we "wrapped" the dollhouse in. I almost didn't find her.
We kicked the balloons around for a while and made a special birthday breakfast: a leaning tower of banana pancakes complete with chocolate chips AND sprinkles, served with chocolate milk. I'm not trying to compensate for the past few months of being a lame mum at all!
The rest of the day went as normal and once Daddy got home, we Skyped with Grandma and Grandpa while Teagan opened her gift from them - an inconceivably heavy box FULL of dress up clothes - everything from Disney Princesses to dance costumes to Foofa from Yo Gabba Gabba, allowing us to fulfill her Halloween request: that we go as the Yo Gabba Gabba gang. Awesome. It was the perfect gift for her age and personality.

Then we had some friends over for cake and ice cream. Her "cake" was as worthless as the last two have been, but this time I made cupcakes so we could send some home with people. I managed to spell out "Happy B-Day Teagan" which was an accomplishment for me. We didn't have a theme per se, but I'd seen some cute Halloween treats on Pinterest and recreated those to the best of my ability. In the end I was glad to have made cupcakes because we were able to take some leftovers to our sweet neighbour, Bill, whose house had been pelted with rocks by some of our unsupervised munchkin guests. (For the record, he was super nice about it and almost refused the cupcakes - we lucked out to have such a nice neighbour in Vegas!) The kids spent most of the time outside on the rollercoaster, the slide and various rolling toys while the adults chatted inside. My kind of party!
The guests went home, Teagan went to bed and I spent the rest of the evening wondering where the last 1,095 days had gone and who had stolen my baby. Happy Birthday Teagan!
