I just sent my "baby" off to stay with our neighbour while I go in to have my next baby. She's never looked so grown up or so little. She hugged me when I asked her to - prompted by a Yo Gabba Gabba song entitled 'Hugs are Fun', of course. I held her for as long as I could and whispered to her that I love her and I will love her just as much when baby brother gets here. "I love you too, Mom." came in her little Munchkin voice (yes, it was MOM, not MUM...but I refuse to give up.) She gave me one last kiss as my only child and shrugged on her wee Dora backpack, took her Daddy's hand and toddled out the door without looking back. And then I lost my composure. I know she'll always be my baby, but now she was becoming a big girl before my very eyes and I wasn't ready for it. I was reduced to a sniffling puddle on the floor.
Buddy tells me that after delivering instructions and exchanging a sweet hug, she told him to "Take care of baby brother." My heart melted. Then he told me that she said it as she was shutting the door in his face. I think she's as ready as an older sibling can be. Here we go!
